We Care About Children

It is the desire of City Church’s Children’s Ministry to partner with families to teach our children that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, and to model what it means and what it looks like to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe it is our role to support parents in their biblical responsibility for “teaching and modeling God’s truths to children.” We want our children to become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, and to grow and mature spiritually by learning about our Savior’s grace as revealed through God’s word.

In order to do this, we strive to make City Church a kid-friendly community. Kids are always welcome at our Sunday services, community groups, and social gatherings. Children’s church and a nursery are available during our Sunday morning services, and childcare is provided at several of our community groups.

Children’s Church

Children's Church is offered to children 2nd grade and under (including infants) during both Sunday morning worship services.

  • Nursery (Green Room): Newborn to 2 years old
  • Toddlers (Blue Room): 2 year olds
  • Kids (Yellow Room): 3 and 4 year olds
  • Students (Community Room): 5 year olds through 2nd grade

The classroom age ranges for the 11am service are:

  • Toddlers (Blue Room): 2 year olds
  • Kids & Students (Yellow Room): 3 year olds through 2nd grade

Children Desiring God: A Sure Foundation

In the green nursery for newborns through 2nd birthday children, and in the blue classroom for 2nd through 3rd birthday toddlers, we use a series entitled "A Sure Foundation," which has pieces geared toward both babies and toddlers. For babies, "The Fragrance of the Knowledge of Christ establishes the philosophy of ministering in infant nurseries and creates an environment centered on prayer for each baby" (Nelson, 2017). In addition, we read aloud the Baby Believer® board books on a rotating pattern. Toddlers are taught weekly Bible stories, monthly memory verses, and ongoing truth statements about God’s character in Volume 1: His Praiseworthy Deeds and Volume 2: Set Their Hope in God  (Nelson, 2017). Both classes are offered during both the 9 AM and 11 AM worship services.

Faith Alive: DWELL

Our preschool and primary (K-2nd) students use a curriculum called “DWELL,” which is “intentionally crafted as an ongoing journey in God’s story,” and builds from year to year (DWELL, 2018). In the yellow classroom for 4th through 5th birthday preschoolers, we use a series entitled “DWELL: Play,” which is “based on 36 stories from Genesis through Acts” and is intended to lead teachers and students “on a joyful discovery of God’s love” (DWELL, 2018). This class is offered during the 9 AM service for preschoolers, and during the 11 AM service for preschoolers through students at the end of 2nd grade. In the community room, 5th birthday through end of 2nd grade students are going through the “DWELL: Imagine” curriculum, which encourages children and leaders to “pause to wonder… imagine… marvel… and dive into God’s story,” and then “live into and live out of it together” using Bible stories, sound theology, faith modeling, and the multiple intelligences to help different kinds of learners learn (DWELL, 2018). This class is offered to K-2nd grade students during the 9 AM service only.
